Associate Director of Operations – Site, Flow and UEC

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a motivated and detail oriented Associate Director of Operations (Site and Flow) to support the Deputy Chief Operating Officer (DCOO) in leading operational delivery and developing a broad-based clinical service that provides safe, sustainable, high quality, and cost effective care that is innovative and responsive to the needs of patients at SFHFT. It will be a dual role, focused for 30% of the time on getting the operational teams to become digital ready, ensuring that live bed management data is available and accurate via Nervecentre, that the EPR program is supported operationally on the wards and departments in relation to flow and site management, and 70% of time on the day to day management of the site and flow teams.

Main duties of the job

The ADO will support specific areas of the operations including the following areas:

* Site Management
* EPR readiness, delivering accurate and high-quality live bed information
* Improving Nervecentre DQ in relation to site and flow management
* Operations Control Centre
* Effective Capacity Management
* Escalation management and processes
* Day to day leadership of improvement programs related to flow, and site operations.
* Training and development of site team
* Improvements to the use of nervecentre to support effective flow and bed management
* Represent SFH at System/Regional/National forums, acting as SFH lead for system escalation calls

Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* Masters degree or equivalent, or first degree or equivalent and post graduate management diploma.
* Leadership and management training and evidence of sustained personal and professional development
* Programme or Project management training


Experience

* Senior operational leadership experience in an acute setting in either a senior corporate operational role or as a Divisional General Manager
* Demonstrates an understanding of performance management against key indicators/ productivity metrics improving operational service delivery, quality and patient experience
* Proven track record in leadership and delivering sustainable change through effective resource and people management
* Proven budget and people management
* Evidence of successfully engaging and influencing clinical and/or medical managers
* Successful leadership of emergency pathway at Trust level
* Experience of working with system (ICS) colleagues to resolve system wide issues


Knowledge

* Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the NHS and social care system and the challenges and opportunities facing Acute Trusts.
* Understanding of clinical and corporate governance requirements
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements
* Knowledge and application of engagement tools and techniques
* An understanding of the strategic issues facing Trust services.
* Specific knowledge of the emergency pathway in an acute setting
* Specific knowledge of system wide urgent care services and challenges


Skills and Personal Attributes

* Strong interpersonal negotiating and influencing skills
* Demonstrates awareness of own personal strengths and limitations with high personal and professional standards and emotional resilience
* Specialist skills in strategic thinking, critical analysis and resolution techniques.
* Excellent communication and report writing skills
* Commercially and financially literate
* Able to provide and set direction, including analytical scope, usage of evidence to develop options.
* Ability to lead change through people, to inspire vision and develop a common purpose.
* Able to manage conflict positively whilst empowering others and supporting team working


Other Requirements

* Must be adaptable and work flexibly to the requirements of the post.
* Participation in the Trust On-call rota.
* Represent the Trust as an ambassador at national, regional and local events
* Able to travel between sites
* Able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with DSFS and SFH CARE values and managerial behavioural standards
