Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (Autism)

A welcoming and supportive primary school in Atherton is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference in a child’s educational and personal development.
About the Role
The successful candidate will work closely with a pupil who requires tailored support to access learning, develop communication skills, and build confidence within the classroom environment. You will work alongside the class teacher and SENDCo to implement strategies that support the pupil’s individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with Autism throughout the school day.
* Adapt learning activities to suit the pupil’s individual learning style and needs.
* Support communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
* Implement behaviour support strategies and follow personalised support plans.
* Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENDCo, and external professionals where required.
* Support transitions between activities and throughout the school day.
Essential Qualities and Skills
The school is looking for a candidate who demonstrates:
* Patience, empathy, and a calm, nurturing approach.
* Strong understanding of Autism and the diverse ways it can present.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships.
* Confidence supporting children with additional needs, including sensory or communication differences.
* Strong behaviour management skills, with a focus on positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies.
* Ability to remain resilient, consistent, and supportive in challenging situations.
* Strong teamwork skills and willingness to take direction from teaching staff and SEN professionals.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
