SRG is seeking a temporary Institute Manager for a university in London.
The Institute Manager collaborates closely with the Institute Director and has strong working relationships with the Faculty of Brain Sciences Operations Director and other Central Professional Services.
The role involves overseeing all operational support services of the Institute, including finance, IT, HR, biological and histology services, health & safety, laboratories, and facilities management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Main functions include:
* Leading the professional services, technical, and administrative functions to ensure efficient, responsive, and professional support services that promote research, education, knowledge transfer, and enterprise.
* Managing the Institute's budget and resources effectively, ensuring compliance with policies and optimizing resource use.
* Supporting the Institute Director in implementing strategic plans and maintaining oversight of Institute operations and performance.
* Coordinating with business partners and professional service leads to meet the needs of the Institute at various levels.
* Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and internal policies.
Operational Management and Services
* Providing leadership to the Institute’s professional and technical teams, including resource and workload management.
* Ensuring high-quality operational services across all sites.
* Maintaining effective governance structures and staff engagement.
* Overseeing operational activities at the Biological Services Facility and managing estate projects.
Strategic Development and Planning
* Advising on strategic objectives and supporting the development and implementation of the Institute’s strategy.
* Managing budgeting cycles and preparing financial and operational reports.
Finance and Resource Management
* Ensuring adherence to policies and effective financial management, including supporting grant applications and managing budgets.
Human Resources and Staff Management
* Supporting recruitment, induction, professional development, and staff management.
* Promoting diversity and ensuring HR compliance.
Experience and Qualifications
* Proven senior management experience in higher education or similar settings.
* Strong financial and operational management skills.
* Experience with research funding and governance.
* Educational background to degree level, preferably with a PhD in a scientific discipline.
* Experience in project management, change management, and working with diverse partners, including NHS collaborations.
