 
        
        An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the CNWL eating disorders service. We are offering a fixed term part time Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/ CBT Therapist post within the Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service.
Main duties of the job involve providing specialist therapies to clients across all sectors of care, primarily outpatients, along with assessment, treatment, supervision and service development.
Responsibilities
Clinical
 * Provide specialist assessments of clients referred to the team, integrating data from psychological tests, self‑report measures, ratings, observations and interviews.
 * Diagnose eating and related psychiatric problems.
 * Formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients’ mental health problems, employing evidence‑based methods across settings.
 * Implement psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, using different explanatory models.
 * Evaluate and decide on treatment options, considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex individual factors.
 * Integrate the medical aspects of eating disorders and associated medical conditions into the psychological formulation.
 * Liaise with other clinicians to ensure appropriate physical checks and interventions for patients’ safety.
 * Understand roles of physical treatments such as nutrition and pharmacology.
 * Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessments, treatments and discharges within standard care plans.
 * Provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals regarding clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans.
 * Support the effective provision of psychological care by all members of the treatment team.
 * Contribute to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care across all settings and agencies.
 * Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and advise other professions on psychological aspects of risk.
 * Communicate sensitively about assessment, formulation and treatment plans, and monitor progress during multi‑disciplinary care.
 * Act as care coordinator, initiating planning and review of care plans under enhanced CPA.
 * Lead on psychological thinking and treatment provision in the inpatient ward and day programme.
Teaching, training and supervision
 * Receive regular clinical and operational supervision from the team’s lead psychologist and senior colleagues.
 * Attend staff group meetings with other colleagues in the service.
 * Develop skills in professional postgraduate teaching, training and supervision.
 * Provide line management to attached band 7 therapists.
 * Provide clinical supervision to band 7s and other MDT staff as appropriate.
 * Provide clinical placements for trainees, ensuring acquisition of necessary skills and competencies.
 * Supervise trainees and assistants professionally.
 * Contribute to pre‑ and post‑qualification teaching of other professionals as required by the head of specialty.
 * Provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with the client group across agencies and settings.
Management, recruitment, policy and service development
 * Contribute to development, evaluation and monitoring of team operational policies and services, using research and audit.
 * Advise service and professional management on psychological and organisational matters.
 * Manage the workloads of those you line manage and supervise within policies and procedures.
 * Involve in shortlisting and interviewing candidates for posts in the multidisciplinary team.
 * Attend relevant clinical meetings of local adult mental health services for individual patients.
 * Attend and contribute to professional meetings of the Adult Psychology Specialty and other departmental meetings.
Research and service evaluation
 * Utilise theory, evidence‑based literature and research to support evidence‑based practice.
 * Undertake appropriate service development research and provide research advice to staff and clinical trainees.
 * Manage complex audit and service evaluation projects with colleagues.
 * Familiarise and comply with Trust research governance requirements.
IT responsibilities (other than those used for research)
 * Input and maintain appropriate computer and manual clinical records and statistical data.
 * Engage in relevant computer and IT training as required.
 * Ensure supervisees engage in relevant computer and IT training and maintain records.
General
 * Contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards through CPD training and development programmes.
 * Develop evidence‑based clinical practice, continually reflect as a scientific practitioner, and take part in supervision and appraisal.
 * Maintain high standards of clinical record‑keeping, electronic data entry, reporting and professional self‑governance.
 * Stay up‑to‑date with legislation, national and local policies and issues relating to client group and mental health.
Person Specification
Training & Qualifications – Essential
 * Upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology or an equivalent mental‑health subject.
 * Clinical psychology, counselling psychology or CBT therapist with full BABCP accreditation.
 * Accredited level training including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, at least two distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
Training & Qualifications – Desirable
 * Training in additional therapy models such as cognitive analytic therapy, EMDR, dialectical behaviour therapy.
 * Pre‑qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training or other applied psychology fields.
Experience – Essential
 * Specialist psychological assessment and evidence‑based treatment across all care settings.
 * Post‑qualification experience within a therapeutic framework, including patients with a full range of clinical severity.
 * Supervised post‑qualification experience delivering evidence‑based treatment for eating disorders and comorbid conditions.
 * Provision of supervision (peer, individual or group) to trainees and assistants in a mental‑health setting.
Experience – Desirable
 * Teaching, training and supervision experience.
 * Experience applying therapy in different cultural contexts.
 * Supervised experience with other eating‑disorder treatments (e.g., cognitive analytic therapy, motivational work, dialectical behavioural therapy).
 * Supervision of clinicians and trainees working with eating disorders.
 * Experience with personality disorders.
 * Experience on an eating‑disorder inpatient ward.
Knowledge and Skills – Essential
 * Knowledge of theoretical and evidence base for eating disorders and comorbid personality pathology.
 * Skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention and management.
 * Effective oral and written communication of complex information.
 * Consultation skills for professional and non‑professional groups.
 * Doctoral‑level knowledge of research methodology and complex data analysis.
 * High level knowledge of at least one other specialised psychological therapy.
 * Training in supervision of trainees and assistants.
 * Evidence of continuing professional development.
 * Professionalism and commitment to therapy in emotionally distressed situations.
Knowledge and Skills – Desirable
 * Knowledge of therapy in difficult‑to‑treat groups (e.g., personality disorder, dual diagnoses).
 * Knowledge of legislation related to client group and mental health.
 * Publication and presentation of clinical research in eating disorders or related areas.
 * Knowledge of personality disorders treatment and therapy.
Other Essential
 * Ability to employ mechanisms of clinical governance to support clinical practice.
 * Ability to teach and train others using multis‑media materials suitable for public, professional, and academic settings.

 * Experience working within a multicultural framework.
Job Details
 * Contract: Fixed term, 12 months.
 * Working pattern: Part‑time, flexible, home or remote, compressed hours.
 * Salary: £61,927 to £68,676 a year pro‑rata, inclusive of Inner HCAS.
