The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and strategic School Business Manager to oversee business operations across two specialist school settings. This is a senior, influential role that will play a central part in ensuring both schools operate efficiently, safely, and sustainably, enabling staff to focus on delivering exceptional outcomes for pupils.

Working across two schools in Stone-on-Trent, you will provide leadership across a broad portfolio of support services, with responsibility for driving performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across both sites.

About the Schools

Both schools provide specialist education for children and young people aged 5–19 with complex needs, including Autism and associated conditions. Each setting is committed to creating nurturing, aspirational environments that support learning, wellbeing, and personal development. You will work closely with dedicated Senior Leadership Teams and established administration staff at both locations.

The Role

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will take ownership of all non-teaching operations, ensuring that systems, processes, and services are robust and aligned with each school’s strategic objectives.

Your responsibilities will include leadership and oversight of:

* Finance and budget management
* Human Resources and people operations
* Administration and data compliance
* Facilities, estates, and premises management
* ICT and systems infrastructure
* Health & Safety and statutory compliance
* Catering and housekeeping services

You will ensure operational excellence across both sites, maintaining high standards of governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance, while supporting a positive and effective working culture.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead strategic planning and day-to-day delivery of business and support services
* Hold full accountability for budget planning, financial performance, and reporting
* Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and relevant legislation
* Manage and develop multi-disciplinary teams across both schools
* Provide clear, accurate information to support leadership decision-making
* Identify opportunities for efficiencies, improvements, and best practice
* Build strong working relationships with school leaders, staff, and external partners

This is a varied and hands-on role, requiring the ability to balance operational detail with long-term strategic thinking.

About You

You will be a confident, credible leader with substantial experience in business or operational management, ideally gained within an educational, care, or similarly regulated environment.

You will bring:

* Proven experience leading multiple operational functions
* Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
* A sound understanding of compliance, safeguarding, and health & safety requirements
* Experience working within inspection and regulatory frameworks
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at senior level
* A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to work autonomously

Desirable:

* A recognised management, business, or finance qualification
* Experience overseeing HR processes and employee relations

Why Apply?

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across two specialist schools, supporting teams who are passionate about providing the very best environments for children and young people with additional needs.
