Job Description:
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
Trainee Specialist Community Public Health Nurse/School Nurse, Band 6 / annex 21 Para 2 (ii)
NHS Tayside offers an excellent opportunity for a Nurse to join our School Nurse Team. We currently have a part-time position (30 hours) within Tayside. The post holder will be responsible for a delegated workload and work as part of a team, partnering with children, young people, families, and multiagency colleagues to identify and support health needs based on the GIRFEC model. Candidates should have awareness of child protection systems and provide accessible, person-centered care as part of the School Nursing Service. Strong communication, organizational, and IT skills are essential.
School Nurses support children and young people alongside a multi-agency team, working closely with education, social work, health, and police. Caseloads include children on the child protection register, care-experienced young people, and children with mental health concerns. Knowledge of trauma, ACEs, risk management, and autonomous support implementation within the GIRFEC framework is vital.
Applicants must be currently registered nurses at degree level and willing to progress onto the Advanced Nursing Practice Education (School Nursing) program at Robert Gordon University via distance learning, supported by NHS Tayside.
As trainees, pay is a percentage of qualified staff pay, as per Annex 21 Paragraph 2 (ii) of the Agenda for Change. Training duration affects pay adjustments as follows:
* Over three years from training completion: 60% of the pay band maximum;
* Over two but less than three years: 65%;
* Over one but less than two years: 70%;
* Up to twelve months before completion: 75%.
NB. Annex 21 details pay arrangements for trainees, including protections for existing NHS employees transitioning to training roles.
Successful candidates will start the Postgraduate Diploma in Advancing Practice at the earliest opportunity.
If you wish to improve children's health and well-being and be part of the School Nursing transformation, this is an ideal opportunity.
Travel across Tayside and surrounding areas is essential.
