Overview
The project manager is a key role in delivering 'Your Future Hospital', an ambitious plan to transform patient care at Dorset County Hospital (DCH) by modernising the hospital estate. As part of the government's 'New Hospital Programme' DCH is investing in a major estate expansion, including a new masterplan with an Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit, outpatient diagnostic and assessment centre, and a new main entrance. This is a significant opportunity to contribute to modernising the local hospital.
Responsibilities
* Support the Strategic Estates Programme Manager in delivering major capital schemes from inception to completion, including design, project management, contract administration and site supervision.
* Be responsible for supervising the construction stage of projects, including formal responsibilities under the NEC3 Works Supervisor role.
* Lead on smaller capital projects within the strategic team to enable major projects to commence.
* Ensure compliance with site rules and policies by contractors and internal teams.
* Communicate project elements to the correct teams at the correct times.
* Take and monitor minutes and actions in both formal and informal meetings internally and with external parties.

Job responsibilities
* Develop project plans and programmes with clear timescales, objectives and milestones; monitor progress, resolve delays and escalate as needed.
* Form project teams with key members of staff; arrange meetings, chair them, take minutes and issue actions.
* Delegate project tasks to internal staff and external contractors.
* Interpret complex client briefs and develop design solutions using applicable codes of practice and statutory requirements.
* Support and occasionally lead the development of Project Business Cases.
* Carry out feasibility, design, specification and management of capital schemes from concept to completion, including documentation for all stages of the capital process (feasibility, brief, design, planning, tender, construction, commissioning, post-project evaluation).
* Adhere to the Trust procurement policy and SFIs to obtain competitive prices and appoint via evaluation exercises.
* Assist with contractor supervision in line with the Trust policy.
* Provide regular stage and milestone progress reports and communicate outcomes to internal and external staff.
* Agree and implement complex plans with minimal disruption to operational activity and communicate plans to all parties involved.
Qualifications and experience
Education, Qualifications and Training (Essential):
- Degree and postgraduate qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Project Management qualification
- Experience of writing specifications and tender documentation
- Experience of managing multi-skilled staff and specialist consultants
Knowledge & Experience (Essential):
- Proven track record of project planning, implementation and completion
- Experience in project management techniques
- Experience communicating complex information to stakeholders
- Experience in site supervision, contractor performance management, and construction quality assurance
- Knowledge of current legislation including Construction Design Management Regulations
Skills and Abilities (Essential):
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project)
- Highly organized and disciplined
- Ability to identify and manage risks
- Excellent report writing and stakeholder communication skills
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and construction documents
- Numerate with budget management
