About ARU:
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.
About The Centre:
The new Centre for Equalities in Uniformed Public Services is a £11.3 million investment in uniformed public services research by UKRI and represents a substantial increase in ARU’s research capacity. Key objectives of the new Centre include producing excellent underpinning research into cultural transformation in uniformed public services, and adopting a strongly collaborative approach with local, regional, and national uniformed public services organisations to tacking issues around equality, diversity, and inclusion. The new Centre brings together the strengths of two of ARU’s existing outstanding Research Institutes (the Veterans and Families Institute (VFI) and the International Policing and Public Protection Research Institute (IPPPRI).
About The Role:
This is a brand-new position, created in collaboration with Centre of Excellence for Equity in Uniformed Public Services (CEEUPS) and Student and Library Services. Based on our Chelmsford campus, this exciting role will play an important part in the establishment and management of a Social Sciences Research Repository, primarily focused on the archiving and ongoing day-to-day management of research data and material.
In addition to helping deliver the setup of the Repository, you’ll manage the daily operations of the archive. This will include undertaking digitisation of archives and related material, advise and support users on how to best access, use and interpret archival data as well as cataloguing collections and managing and arranging information and records. The post is funded and line managed by CEEUPS, with mentoring provided by Student and Library Services if required.
You’ll also provide research and reference assistance to users of archived material, recommending effective approaches and specific materials to specific projects. You’ll prepare finding aids, guides and other descriptive access tools, including the creation of encoded finding aids.
With a degree or part qualified in a relevant professional qualification, you’ll have experience of the curation of archival collections, including appraisal, sorting, arrangement, description, conversation and digitisation of materials. You’ll have experience working with archive cataloguing and metadata schema (such as ISAD(G). Experience of procurement of a data archival system, as well as working specifically with research data would be advantageous.
