Job Overview Open to MPFT Applicants Only The post holder carries day to day responsibility for the operational management and delivery of services within the Paediatric Podiatry Service based in South Staffordshire in line with the Trust Values The post holder will ensure that a high-quality service is delivered within this specialist area and that all National and Trust targets and standards are adhered to including the recording of information within the IT systems. The post holder will be responsible for the management of staff within the team, leadership, the delivery and delegation of management supervision and ensuring appropriate clinical / professional supervision takes place as per Trust Policy. If applicable, the post holder will carry out clinical shifts to maintain clinical competencies for a percentage of their time. In conjunction with the service manager, AHP Professional Lead and multi professional partners, they will develop the provision and quality of podiatry services for children and young people whose needs meet the service specification. This will demonstrably reflect the principles of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness as well as Trust and National Policy. To be responsible for the deployment, day-to-day management, supervision and co-ordination of designated staff. Be responsible for monitoring sickness, annual leave, flexitime arrangements, appraisal, personal development planning and informal disciplinary matters. To be responsible for designated staff members target setting and performance management. Maintaining own clinical competencies by working clinically if appropriate To deputise for the Service Manager as required. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities To be responsible for the deployment, day-to-day management, supervision and co-ordination of designated staff, co-ordinating the day-to-day activities of the clinical area Be responsible for monitoring sickness, annual leave, flexitime arrangements, appraisal, personal development planning and informal disciplinary matters. To be responsible for designated staff members target setting and performance management, work with colleagues to develop and communicate the vision of patient centred care. Work with the team to provide effective delivery of care and improve the patient journey taking responsibility ensuring high standards of record keeping are in place and records are clear and remain current. In conjunction with the service manager ensure HCPC registration of all dietitians in your service managing resources effectively. In partnership with others, ensure evidence-based paediatric podiatry care and advice is delivered in all areas of the service. Identify and pursue own educational and professional development ensuring skills and knowledge are maintained at the appropriate level. Support and promote the development and implementation of podiatry services that reflect the principles of clinical governance. Support PALS and complaints policy and procedures, clinical risk management activities within sphere of responsibility. Show a good awareness of clinical competencies and scope of practice and seek advice from clinical and professional leads as appropriate. Manage the paediatric podiatry team, exercising effectiveness and flexible budget control in order to stay within budgetary limits in conjunction with Service Manager, acting as authorised signatory for appropriate budget. Provide knowledge to the procurement processes, implementation and monitoring of all software and IT systems used by the team. Ensure the delivery on key performance indicators and fundamental standards. Engage in and support the development of policies, procedures and working practices within the team. Ensure implementation, monitoring, evaluation and compliance with all policies and procedures in area of responsibility. Work collaboratively with the Service Manager and AHP Professional Lead in the planning and delivery of services. Ensure that all staff policies and guidelines are adhered to and provide guidance to clinical staff regarding implementation. Support the local implementation / development of National Strategies and to initiate change and practice development. Communicate highly sensitive confidential information relating to patients and staff that require empathy, persuasion and reassurance. Be able to adapt communication styles depending on the audience. Develop and nurture working relationships with commissioners, partners and third parties to benefit the service development and sustainability Work with colleagues to develop and communicate the vision of patient centred care. Make and accept referrals to and from other disciplines, departments, other NHS trusts and voluntary agencies in line with Service Specifications. Work independently, without direct supervision in a number of environments. Act as a resource and provide appropriate management support for all clinical and non-clinical staff within the service. Demonstrate a high level of decision-making and an ability to monitor and improve standards of care, working within own scope of practice. Working in conjunction with the others e.g. Service Manager, AHP Professional Lead, Clinical Leads, identify and support the developmental needs of podiatry practise with a view to advancing clinical practice. Act as a resource and provide appropriate support for the team within the service. Promote a supportive and developmental teaching and learning environment supporting clinical supervision in line with the Trust’s philosophy and local strategy. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Degree level of education (or equivalent) Leadership/ management training e.g. appraisal, recruitment and selection and supervision Desirable criteria Post Reg MSc or equivalent qualifications Experience Essential criteria Experience of managing a community children’s team Experience of Multidisciplinary working Experience of providing staff supervision and managing staff Evidence of supporting successful change management Evidence of utilising evidence-based practice Evidence of working with staff from different professional disciplines Desirable criteria Experience of undertaking appraisal, recruitment and selection. Skills Essential criteria knowledge and understanding of managing a community children’s healthcare.
