You will support a mission to develop room-temperature quantum technologies for the benefit of mankind.
On this EPSRC-funded research project, you will work with the groups of Professor and Professor at the University of St. Andrews along with experts at and to develop hybrid photonic spin-polarized devices based on small organic molecules. These devices will be electrically driven to reach unprecedented levels of low-noise microwave amplification for magnetic field sensing and new types of analytical and diagnostic equipment.
We are seeking an excellent Research Associate or Assistant with experimental experience in radio-frequency & microwave instrumentation, electron-paramagnetic-resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and laser/pump optics to support this mission. The initial contract length will be 24-months.
During the 24-month project you will be responsible for:
1. Conducting high-quality research using your initiative to solve problems.
2. Evaluating new photoactivated quantum materials using electron spin resonance techniques.
3. Designing and testing new microwave cavities with high quality factors.
4. Preparing project updates at group meetings including with external collaborators.
5. Maintaining project records including an appropriately detailed lab book.
6. Leading the writing of research papers for publication.
7. Delivering oral presentations at national/international conferences and workshops.
8. Coordinating with academic and industrial collaborators.
9. Supporting and mentoring junior researchers in the group.
10. Helping to ensure an equitable, supportive and positive workplace environment.
11. For Research Associate - A PhD in relevant a physical science such as physics, engineering or chemistry.
12. For Research Assistant – A Masters degree in Physics, Chemistry or a related subject.
13. An ability to work independently and proactively.
14. A strong publication record commensurate with your experience.
15. Good leadership and communication skills.
16. A collaborative nature and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
17. Ability to communicate well, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively.
