Mechanical Engineer (Senior, Principal, Senior Principal or Experienced) - Hydropower – Warrington, England, United Kingdom
The Opportunity
Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, most complex and exciting dam and hydro projects. We are growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, contributing to the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This role is based in the hydropower team and may support projects in other sectors including Water and Thermal.
Projects include Coire Glas (Scotland), Koysha (Ethiopia), and Dinorwig (Wales). Stantec is known for delivering high-quality outputs that help clients achieve their outcomes and business benefits.
Responsibilities
* Own the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and produce outline and detailed designs to support project delivery.
* Work with a multi-disciplinary design group to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, and liaison with other disciplines at feasibility, outline, and detailed stages.
* Develop cost-effective and innovative design solutions in line with the Client’s requirements.
About You
* Chartered or Incorporated status with IMechE is preferred or you are working towards it.
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
* Experience in design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.
* Experience with rotating machinery.
* Knowledge of planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for energy projects.
* Ideally competent in 3D modelling software (e.g., Revit or AutoCAD), experience working within a BIM environment, and experience with hydropower applications.
* Experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection; experience with balance of plant and systems typical in hydropower (e.g., HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, mechanical services).
