Overview
Operational Project Management Summer Placement at Severn Trent. This hands-on opportunity explores how operational excellence and strategic thinking come together to support Severn Trent’s water network infrastructure. You’ll be part of a small but mighty team within Strategic Networks, working on real-world challenges that directly impact customers and communities. The placement covers fieldwork, project planning, and regional site visits across our network.
During the programme you’ll be supported by a dedicated mentor and report into the Performance Manager, with opportunities to present learnings to the wider team. At the end of the programme you’ll have the chance to host a DILO session for fellow interns.
What you’ll learn
* Understand the Strategic Networks vision and how it supports Severn Trent’s wider goals.
* Conduct research and analysis to propose replacements for key assets like Venturi Pumps.
* Explore how operational planning interacts with traffic management, council permits, and repair work.
* Contribute to the development of condition-based maintenance strategies for PRVs (Pressure Release Valves).
* Identify process inefficiencies and propose solutions to improve design, planning, and delivery timelines.
* Support health & safety initiatives by assessing tasks and suggesting improvements.
* Gain exposure to project management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional collaboration.
* Reflect on your experience and present learnings to the wider team.
Programme details
* Location: Severn Trent Centre, Coventry, CV1 2LZ (with regional site visits)
* Programme duration: 8 or 12 weeks
* Starting salary: £24,452.04 pro rata
* Hours and travel: 50% regional site visits as part of the placement
Entry criteria
* Driving licence and access to own vehicle is essential as 50% of time will be spent visiting sites in the region
* Preferred degree backgrounds: Project or business management, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or related subjects
* You must be currently studying at a UK university and be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
