Hillcrest Futures is recruiting for a Cook/Kitchen Assistant

About the Service

Our Housing with Care service is recruiting a Cook/Kitchen Assistant for our older people’s services based in Dundee. Providing two daily meals for individuals of varying ages but predominantly older people living independently within their own homes, with underlying health conditions and/or Physical Disabilities. The service provides a range of support to meet the needs of the individuals and enable them to remain independent in their own homes in the community.

About the Role

1. Provide nutritious, varied and well-balanced meals that are safely and hygienically prepared and serve
2. Ensure menus are prepared in conjunction with the resident’s likes and dislikes
3. Comply with company standards, policies and procedures
4. Wash, dry and store all kitchen items to achieve compliance with company standards, policies and procedures
5. Ensure handling of all chemicals and products are attained to RIDDOR standards and all health and safety matters are fully complied with
6. Minimise the risk of accidents and waste by effective working under supervision and ensuring all areas are hazard free and clean at all times
7. Complete all necessary documentation and administration to ensure the smooth running of the department.
8. Ensure that you work in a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure that all COSHH records are maintained and updated when necessary
9. Fully aware and comply with infection control policies and procedures and appropriate hand hygiene technique
10. Ensure budget control alongside the Service Manager

About You

11. Share Hillcrest Futures Values.
12. Have a passion for working with vulnerable adults.
13. Be a good communicator, both written and verbal.
14. Be organised with good time keeping skills.
15. Have the ability to lone work and be able to work as part of a team.
16. Be flexible in respect of shift patterns as these will include weekends.
17. Minimum of 1 year working in a kitchen environment.
18. Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer/fridge temperatures.
19. Ensure stock rotation. Order stocks and check deliveries, and check and value stocks.
20. Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary, and take into account the preferences of individual Clients.
21. Basic IT skills.
22. Hold a Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate/SVQ 2 in Catering & Hospitality or Professional Cookery or have a willingness to work towards the desired qualifications.
