Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The paediatric critical care services at Leicester are located at Leicester Royal Infirmary. This includes a 12‑bedded cardiac paediatric intensive care unit (CPICU), 7‑bedded children’s intensive care unit (CICU) and 12‑bedded HDU/Paediatric respiratory long‑term ward (ward 12) which is located next to the children’s intensive care unit.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Senior role in General PICU, Cardiac PICU, and Comet transport, with supported on‑call duties.
* Participate in Cardiac MDT meetings and PICU grand rounds.
* Lead ward rounds during fellow weeks, working with the MDT.
* Collaborate with the outreach team and oversee patient flow.
ECMO Focus
* Work closely with the ECMO team, with protected time to attend paediatric and adult ECMO ward rounds.
* Access ECMO wet‑lab simulations and complete bedside preceptorship.
* Teach on the 4‑day ECMO course, held twice a year.
* Gain experience in ECMO transport, including intra‑ and inter‑hospital transfers.
* Involved in ECMO referral triaging and equipment familiarisation.
Research & Development
* Contribute to audit, QI and research projects.
* Funding to attend and present at the ELSO conference.

Qualifications
* MB BS or Equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCPCH Equivalent
* Current APLS/NLS certification
Experience
* At least 1 year experience in paediatric intensive care medicine at ST6+ level or equivalent
* Appropriate clinical knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems; clear, logical thinking/analytical approach; understands evidence based practice
* Airway skills, ability to perform ultrasound guided lines. Lead resuscitation for children of all ages

* Previous ECMO centre experience
Motivation
* Personal integrity and reliability. Willingness to learn new skills
* Ability to motivate and develop both medical staff and non‑medical staff

* Commitment to further develop the post and the service provided.
Management
* Willingness to work as a member of the team and to share administrative responsibilities
* Able to work in multidisciplinary teams and supervise juniors
* Knowledge of clinical governance issues
* Capacity to manage/prioritise time and information effectively
