About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Criminal Justice department as a Digital Charging Support Officer (DCSO). The DCSOs are a 24/7 team who support officers and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) with processing remand cases. These are the cases where the defendant is in custody and officers are seeking to charge them within the 24-hour PACE clock to appear before the next available court.
As a DCSO, your primary responsibilities will be to:
* Transfer remand files to the CPS.
* Conduct a file quality review before submission to ensure they meet the National File Standard.
* Assist officers with queries about file quality and the remand process.
* Be the first point of contact for the CPS to resolve queries and ensure action plans are completed to obtain a charging decision within the PACE clock.
* Liaise with other force areas to process files where either we have arrested a defendant on behalf of another force area, or they have arrested a defendant on our behalf.
* Register cases on the court system and be a single point of contact between officers and the court.
* Prepare and assign files to the Criminal Justice Unit once they have been sent to court.
