The UK EHS Manager is responsible for leading our UK EHS team, ensuring the creation and maintenance of a safe, compliant, and resilient working environment across Abcam’s UK operations. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day implementation of health and safety practices, while ensuring full compliance with environmental policies and regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of UK occupational EHS standards and legislation, with a focus on identifying and mitigating risks to maintain a safe workplace at all times.
This position reports to the Senior Director Global EHS and is part of the Global EHS team located in Cambridge, UK and will be an on-site position. At Abcam, our vision is to be the most influential life sciences company for researchers worldwide.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
* Act as the EHS expert, develop and lead EHS programs to ensure regulatory compliance and governance, incident prevention for the Cambridge site.
* Lead and manage the UK EHS team, fostering a continuous improvement culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
* Management and maintenance of the Environment and Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation including ISO14001 and ISO45001.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS into operational planning and decision-making.
* Support the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective business continuity management system for the Cambridge site.
The essential requirements of the job include:
* Education – NEBOSH diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
* Years of Functional Experience - 10+ years of practical experience with a variety of EHS activities supporting a laboratory-based company.
* Have strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards and experience with EHS management systems.
* Communication & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to talk comfortably and knowledgeably with a wide range of stakeholder, including senior management, business partners and audit functions.
* Organisation and planning: Good decision making skills, strong team working, collaborative, proactive planning, training and organisational skills
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
* Ability to travel – no more than approx. 10% time travelling internationally, working with the Global EHS Team across Abcam site locations.
* Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
* Experience working within the life science sector and familiar with a laboratory environment
