Offer description

As a Domiciliary Care Worker, you provide essential, person‑centred care and support to the elderly and vulnerable adults in their own homes. Your core job daily is to enable service users to maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life within their familiar surroundings and community. This role requires a little bit of travel between service users' homes and involves a high degree of autonomy, reliability, and compassion, with all duties performed according to the individualised care plan.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Personal Care and Mobility
o Assist service users with all aspects of personal hygiene and care, including washing, bathing, showering, dressing, undressing, and grooming.
o Provide assistance with continence management and the safe use of toileting aids.
o Support service users with safe moving and handling, including transfers, using mobility aids, and assisting with getting in and out of bed, following established safe practice guidelines.
o Assist with the safe and monitored administration of prescribed medication, following appropriate training and adhering strictly to the care plan and regulatory guidelines.
2. Domestic and Nutritional Support
o Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals and snacks, ensuring service users receive adequate fluid and nutritional intake.
o Assist with light domestic tasks essential to the service user's immediate comfort and safety, such as washing dishes, light tidying, and essential laundry.
o Support service users with accessing the community, which may include assisting with shopping, collecting prescriptions, or accompanying them to social activities or appointments.
o Provide support with managing household finances and running errands as specifically detailed in the care plan, maintaining accurate records.
3. Health Monitoring and Communication
o Monitor and record changes in the service user's health, behaviour, or overall well‑being, such as fluid/food intake, skin condition, or changes in mood.
o Promptly report any significant concerns, incidents, accidents, or suspected safeguarding issues to the designated manager or on‑call staff immediately.
o Maintain accurate, legible, and up‑to‑date records (paper‑based or electronic) for each visit, detailing the care provided and any observations.
o Communicate effectively and professionally with the client, their family, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals (e.g., district nurses, GPs).
4. Promoting Well‑being and Independence
o Work closely with the service user, their family, and the wider care team to implement the person‑centred care plan.
o Encourage and support service users to make choices and participate actively in their own care and daily life decisions.
o Provide emotional support and companionship, actively listening to the client and treating them with respect and dignity at all times.
o Ensure all practices adhere to health and safety regulations, including infection control protocols, to maintain a safe home environment.

Essential Requirements

* A deep sense of compassion, patience, and reliability.
* Ability to travel independently between service user homes (a valid driving licence and own transport is often essential for this role).
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively to adhere to a busy schedule of client visits.
* Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting clients’ homes and privacy.
* A willingness to undertake and complete the Care Certificate (or equivalent) and all mandatory training.
* Previous experience in domiciliary care or a similar support role.
