The role
The Environmental and Sustainability Manager role will require travel across England to visit various project sites as required.
The jobholder will provide support and advice to our operational teams on all aspects of environmental and sustainability management, developing documentation, meeting legal, regulatory and company standards and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement.
Understand and work with Clients and Regulators to ensure their requirements are complied with.
Support on site mitigation, sustainability of works and engagement with local stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice and support to operational teams on environmental & sustainability matters including advising on latest low or zero -carbon technologies
* Maintain relationships with regulators, clients and subcontractors
* Maintain relationships with local stakeholders
* Support the project teams investigation into any environmental incidents.
* Ensure on-site compliance with environmental legislation and coach teams in applying controls and mitigations.
* Support Sustainability activities for the project and business.
* Advise the business on best practice in areas of corporate, ethical and social responsibility and address any issues arising.
* Have an awareness of Biodiversity net gain & Public available specification Carbon management in infrastructure (BNG, PAS 2080), Carbon and alignment with Omexom and associated industry sustainability targets
* Liaise with client, regulatory bodies and subcontractors on matters of environmental management and sustainability
* Provide support to operations and design teams on environmental management, compliance and project specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecology protection
* Investigate environmental incidents and support the business to implement controls to prevent repeat occurrence
* Produce internal and external reports as required, e.g. case studies, environmental & sustainability performance
* Support and conduct audit and assurance activities including facilitating external audits by clients and certification bodies
Essential criteria
It is essential that the successful candidate is an excellent communicator with all stakeholders (internal and external), a commercially focused self-starter with the enthusiasm, motivation and initiative to succeed in this role. The jobholder must possess:
* Strong knowledge of environment management and sustainability issues including Water Environment, Ecology, Archaeology & Private Water Supplies
* Full UK drivers licence and flexibility to travel
* Ability and willingness to be flexible with working from home, office, and site based
* Be self-motivated and able to motivate staff at all levels.
* Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Establish effective networks, both internally and externally.
Desirable
* Educated to degree level in Environmental Science, Environmental Management
* Practical experience and knowledge of environmental legislation, ecology mitigation environmental licences and consent applications and regulator consultation experience
* Understanding of the Construction operating environment
* Membership of Environmental Body i.e. IES, IEMA
General
This position is preferably based in England. Travel to sites and attendance at project progress meetings will be required throughout England.
Flexible working is available, however, a certain amount of office based work is expected.
The salary and benefits package for this role will be on a Personal Contract basis and will be commensurate with a position at this level and dependent on experience.
