Overall Aim and Objectives:
To provide excellent clinical leadership, creating and maintaining the highest standards of nursing care for all students, working closely with members of the college multidisciplinary teams.
To have a strong focus on clinical delivery, providing KPI data and bespoke reports as required.
To promote and develop a team approach across all professional disciplines.
Main Duties
Clinical leadership of the nursing team, to enable students to:
* access education.
* ensure students are able to have safe and effective access to learning and enrichment opportunities across the curriculum.
* ensure effective communications both internally and externally.
* To work with the Head of College and other senior leaders, as directed, to ensure clinical delivery complies with Shaftesbury policies and procedures and CQC standards.
* To monitor the quality and delivery of the nursing service.
* To ensure rotas provide nursing cover across all operational days.
* To ensure high quality nursing documentation, monitoring record keeping to ensure student care plans and records are up to date.
* * Liaise with students’ parents/carers, external medical professionals and social workers as necessary.
* To ensure effective communication channels with all internal multidisciplinary teams, parents/carers and relevant external agencies.
* Ensure safe nursing practice, including administration of medication, emergency care, and assessment and identification of students’ health needs.
* Assessments and referral to GP/external medical professionals, as required and necessary in order to ensure a safe continuum of care for each student.
* Ensure maintenance of medical equipment and safe storage of all medications and clinical equipment in line with Shaftesbury policies and procedures, CQC standards and current Health and Safety regulations.
* Development of nursing staff including delivery of and oversight of training.
* Supervision of nurses, identifying areas for development and training needs.
* Ensure clinical training for care and education staff.
* The promotion of health across all college teams.
* Promote autonomy of nursing team to feel confident to deliver care at a consistently high level.
* Maintain safe medication storage and delivery control, including a systematic recording system in accordance with Shaftesbury policy and procedure, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Development for Education and Skills (DEFS) guidelines.
* Monitor daily personal programs for students.
* Work with all members of the multidisciplinary team, including therapists, ensuring each student’s health needs are met.
* Ensure the Head of College is informed of student illness, sickness, accidents or injury. Ensure these are recorded and reported appropriately.
* Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of the post as deemed necessary by the Head of College.
* To be a role model for all staff and students in all aspects of personal and professional conduct by exemplifying the highest professional standards following the Code of Conduct and all Shaftesbury policies and procedures.
* Maintain confidentiality in line with GDPR and Shaftesbury policies and procedures.
* Attendance at college training and planning and preparation days is compulsory.
