Engineer - Highways Asset Maintenance

* Salary: £39,890 per annum
We are seeking a dedicated Engineer to join our Highways Asset Maintenance team within the PLACE Directorate. This role is crucial for managing and delivering the council's capital highway maintenance programmes. You will be instrumental in applying robust highway asset management principles to ensure the long-term performance and durability of the highway network.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Assist in the delivery of the Highways Maintenance service by managing and implementing highway maintenance projects and operational functions.
* Conduct project feasibility studies and option appraisals, provide professional recommendations considering technical, economic, and environmental factors.
* Manage and deliver specialist highway surface treatment contracts, develop programmes of work, oversee preparation activities, and monitor quality.
* Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, adhering to the approved annual maintenance programme standards and operational priorities.
* Utilize highway asset management principles to maintain efficient and effective network maintenance, including data analysis and lifecycle planning.
* Develop and review policies and technical documentation to maintain compliance with national standards and best practices.
* Liaise with industry organisations, suppliers, and contractors regarding material specifications, product performance, and health and safety requirements.
* Support the council's Winter Service by reviewing weather forecasts, making treatment decisions, and managing resources effectively.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Qualified to level 5 (HND) in Civil Engineering or significant relevant Highways Maintenance experience.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, with practical experience in AutoCAD and GIS mapping systems.
* Experience in highway maintenance practices, including design principles and construction techniques.
* Ability to engage with elected members, community groups, and other stakeholders, providing clear information and professional advice.
* Sound technical knowledge of highway maintenance practices and a good understanding of various surface treatment methods.
