Description
The role will advise and assist people to access available benefits and other sources of financial help. This support may be provided on a ‘drop in’ basis and through booked appointments. As Benefits Advisor, you will liaise with statutory and voluntary bodies, maintain relationships with service users, and enable access to Maggie’s programmes to support cancer patients.
Key responsibilities
* Provide advice on benefits and assist with claims to maximize income.
* Develop benefits advice as part of Maggie’s programme, including training participation.
* Maintain records and activity data according to Maggie’s policies.
* Build relationships with external agencies and signpost appropriately.
* Follow up on disability benefits claims and support negotiations with statutory bodies.
* Create a welcoming environment for visitors and foster ongoing relationships.
* Contribute to awareness and accessibility of Maggie’s Centres.
* Support administrative functions and participate in team meetings and training.
* Occasional overnight stays, travel, and working in evenings or unsocial hours may be required.
Skills, knowledge and experience
* Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
* At least 2 years’ experience in welfare benefits and money advice.
* Understanding of health-related concerns within social and personal contexts.
* Empathetic manner with excellent communication skills.
* Ability to produce clear, concise reports.
