A unique opportunity for another experienced Rights Agent to join a dynamic and award-winning literary agency
Representing bestselling authors including Gail Honeyman, Fiona Barton, CL Taylor, CJ Tudor and Holly Bourne, and with titles that have sold into more than 40 territories, the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency has a reputation for launching high-profile debuts and negotiating major deals across all media and in multiple territories.
We are looking for an energetic, creative, highly motivated candidate with at least two years' experience of working with foreign publishers and/or a proven track record of selling rights around the world. This crucial role is best suited for someone with a long-term desire to make their mark in the rights department using the skills they have already accrued, and lessons still to be learnt.
They should also have a proven track record of administrative excellence, thrive off a large workload, be a voracious reader of contemporary fiction, and take an active interest in the literary trends of overseas markets.
As part of an ambitious team your role will demand a sense of urgency coupled with an aptitude for calm, an articulate phone and writing style, a desire to learn and to initiate, and outstanding organisational standards.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): managing a number of vital markets; handling the rights for big brand authors; launching debuts across the world; working with co-agents; scheduling and attending book fairs; planning and undertaking overseas trips; creating strategies to maximise revenue from foreign rights; contract processing.
With Madeleine Milburn winning Literary Agent of the Year this year, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine being the biggest bestseller of 2018, and the MMLA list expanding more than ever in its seven-year history, the successful candidate will be joining at an incredibly exciting moment in the agency's history.
We pride ourselves on investing in our staff, and are excited to offer a competitive salary based on experience and attainment, and subject to a review after six months.
To apply, please email your CV and a covering letter addressed to Giles Milburn that includes your notice period, salary expectations and the last five books you have enjoyed to jobs@madeleinemilburn.com. We reserve the right to close the recruitment process early if we have found the right candidate.
