The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs, until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
The work may be called ‘part-time’, but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced, saving lives and protecting people and community assets. They are paid for their services, receive thorough training, and learn about emergency situations and personal skills.
On-call firefighters come from all areas of the community, including those who are at home, in employment, self-employed, studying, or not currently employed. They dedicate their time to assist the fire and rescue service and help protect communities.
This role is demanding but offers the chance to make a real contribution, forming close working relationships with team members and participating in community events.
On-call firefighters respond to a variety of situations, including community fire safety, flooding, co-responding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
Previous Experience: No prior experience required as comprehensive training is provided. Enthusiasm and meeting essential requirements are important. You must be able to reach the fire station quickly and safely after being alerted, which requires physical fitness.
Note: To apply, you must live or work within 5 minutes of the Fire Station; otherwise, your application will be rejected.
