About the Practice
Saltash Health Centre is a friendly, forward‑thinking GP practice providing high‑quality, patient‑centred care to approximately 12,200 patients. We are a well‑established, supportive multi‑disciplinary team including GPs, GP trainees, paramedics, clinical pharmacists, social prescribers, nurses, HCAs and phlebotomists.
We are also an accredited training practice for student nurses, GP trainees and medical students, with a strong focus on learning, development and innovation.
Job Overview
We are looking for a caring, motivated Practice Nurse to join our experienced nursing team. You will deliver high‑quality clinical care, promote health and wellbeing, and support patients in managing long‑term conditions.
This is a varied role with excellent opportunities for professional development, supported by clinical supervision and a collaborative team environment.
As part of our ongoing development, the practice is expanding its involvement in primary care research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to research projects and quality improvement work (experience not essential).
Responsibilities
* Long‑term condition management (e.g. diabetes, asthma, COPD)
* Wound care, including compression bandaging
* Travel health advice and vaccinations
* Cervical screening and women’s health
* Contraception reviews
* Routine and childhood immunisations (under PGDs)
* Venepuncture, ECGs, urinalysis and blood pressure monitoring
* Supporting minor surgery and coil fittings
* Health promotion and patient education
* Participation in audits, infection control and quality improvement
* Supporting practice research activity (e.g. patient recruitment, data collection)
* Requesting basic pathology tests (urine culture, swabs)
* Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to the Nurse Manager or GPs
* Assisting in chaperoning patients during examinations
* Maintaining and cleaning nursing and GP equipment
* Ordering stock
* Following CSSD procedures
* Maintaining GP and nurse rooms, stocking and rotating items
* Participation in administrative systems
* Maintaining accurate records
* Advising the Nurse Manager of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
* Attending practice meetings
* Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration (essential)
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills (essential)
* Ability to work effectively within a team (essential)
* Commitment to high‑quality patient care and continuous professional development (essential)
* Experience in general practice nursing (desirable)
* Experience in chronic disease management and/or minor illness (desirable)
* Flexible approach to working patterns (desirable)
* Interest in research and quality improvement (desirable)
