Our innovative Alternative Provision (AP) school in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, is seeking an inspiring Sports-Based 1:1 Teacher. At our AP, we use sports and physical activity as a powerful tool to build confidence, teach essential life skills, improve well-being, and support academic re-engagement for students who have faced barriers to mainstream education. This 1:1 role is central to our personalised approach.
Key Responsibilities:
* Planning and delivering bespoke 1:1 sports-based sessions, adapting activities to meet individual student needs and interests.
* Using practical sport as a vehicle to teach core subjects, build social skills, and improve emotional regulation.
* Developing and implementing personalised learning plans (PLPs) focused on both physical and academic progress.
* Building strong, positive, and trusting relationships with students, many of whom have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or SEND.
* Managing challenging behaviours with a trauma-informed and restorative approach.
* Collaborating closely with the AP team, parents, and external agencies to ensure holistic student support.
* Ensuring the safety and well-being of students during all activities.
We are looking for a Sports-Based 1:1 Teacher who:
* Has a genuine passion for physical activity and its positive impact on young people.
* Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with vulnerable students.
* Is patient, resilient, and creative in their approach to teaching and engagement.
* Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) OR possesses significant experience in sports coaching, youth work, or 1:1 support roles within education, particularly with relevant sports qualifications (e.g., NGB coaching awards) and experience working with SEMH/SEND students.
