Position Role : Sergeants’ Mess Manager Responsibilities: 1 Supervise day to day activities within the RMB Chivenor Sergeants’ Mess and act as liaison between mess members and contracted civilian staff iaw Mess Rules and Byelaws. Consult with the RSM in identifying any changes to these rules. 2 Maintain Mess accounts and present them for audit iaw Army Code 60450, Service Funds Regulations and RMI's. In addition, be prepared to brief the accounts to Mess members at monthly meetings. 3 Act as Building Manager for the Sergeants’ Mess. Be fully conversant with the FDIS contract and complaints process and be prepared to optimise the SFM contract for Mess and Garrison benefit. Hold the contractor to account where deficiencies are reported. Advise mess members on the standards expected of them under the FDIS contract. 4 Determine all requirements for Bar stock, victualling, additional staff requirements and insurance for all functions held in the Mess. To attend all functions in the role of Mess Manager and be prepared to work unsociable hours. 5 Ensure building and contents are maintained to a high standard, act as the conduit for all Mess members to report faults and seek to continually improve the OM through the SFM and HFM contract. In addition, act as the initial point of contact for any staff complaints in regard to military personnel. 6 Manage the Sergeants’ Mess accommodation plot, including outbuildings. In addition, ensure the correct marching in and out procedures are conducted and the accommodation on both joining and leaving is at the correct standard. 7 Ensure the Mess complies with Health and Safety law and guidance and liaise with the Garrison SHEF Advisor to ensure the Mess is ready and compliant for all inspections. 8 Act as Mentor for any committee or individual tasked to be responsible for a function within the Mess, providing financial and practical advice. 9 Be accountable to the PMC (RSM) 10 Be prepared to cover for the Officers’ Mess manager when they are not available and be accountable to their PMC.
