Job Title: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
Salary: £57,000-£60,000
Location: Remote working – Occasional visits to Bath office, so commuting distance is preferable
Role Purpose
The IT Operations Team is responsible for ensuring that IT infrastructure and business services are secure, fit-for-purpose, operational, reliable, resilient, and cost-effective. The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will be pivotal in designing and building cloud-based infrastructure and services to drive our organization forward. Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, you will stay up-to-date on cloud technologies to plan and continually improve our cloud migration. Working with the rest of the IT Operations Team and the wider department, you will take a lead role in planning, documenting, and implementing chosen solutions. Ensuring best practices are followed, you will keep our IT infrastructure secure and operational during our ongoing IT transformation and into the future.
Key Accountabilities
* Enable Cloud technology adoption through strategy planning, design, and implementation.
* Lead infrastructure strategy planning alongside the IT Operations Manager to ensure systems are fit-for-purpose and meet the ongoing needs of the business.
* Act as a Subject Matter Expert on Azure and MS365 applications, supporting the mentoring and development of other IT colleagues.
* Act as a technical escalation point, working with other team members to resolve complex problems and provide root cause analysis.
* Enhance automation of cloud enablement tools, such as Infrastructure As Code, and participate in their design and evolution.
* Plan and implement system migrations from datacentre hosted infrastructure to the cloud.
* Create and review comprehensive technical documentation, including high and low level designs, architectural statements, and standard operating manuals.
* Lead technical projects working alongside project managers to define critical timescales and ensure they are met.
* Design and implement cloud storage and backup solutions.
* Provide third line technical support on IT infrastructure both on-premises, in the datacentre, and in the cloud as required.
* Monitor system performance, costs, availability, and functionality, and take proactive or remedial action to prevent system outages.
* Track asset lifecycle and play an active role in the replacement, retirement, and decommissioning of assets.
* Assist in planning Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity playbooks, carry out testing of processes, and take action on any remedial work required.
* Plan, monitor, and test system and data backups in line with IT policies.
* Monitor software versions, plan and implement system upgrades or patches as required.
Required Expertise:
* MS Azure Expertise with certification and/or demonstrable experience of:
* Tenants and Subscriptions
* Cloud Adoption Framework / Azure Landing Zones
* Azure architecture
* Azure Entra ID (Enterprise applications, conditional access etc.)
* Azure storage accounts
* Azure Virtual Machines
* Azure performance, security, and cost management
MS365 Applications with certification and/or demonstrable experience of:
* Sharepoint
* MS Exchange Online
* On-prem infrastructure experience including:
* Building and configuration of MS Windows Servers
* Active Directory domain knowledge
* Hypervisor virtualisation management (ideally VMWare)
* Backup solutions (ideally VEEAM)
* Infrastructure performance monitoring
* Additional Technologies:
* Vulnerability Management
* SIEM Technologies
* Powershell
* Infrastructure As Code (ideally Terraform and Ansible) Essential
Desirable Knowledge and Experience:
* SQL
* Networking experience (Cisco switch, firewalls)
* Cisco Umbrella
* Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure support
* Netapp Experience
* Knowledge of and/or certification in ITIL 4
