Job Title: Senior / Principal Planning Consultant

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading independent environmental and planning consultancy in their search for a Senior / Principal Planning Consultant.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planning professional to play a key role in delivering complex and technically challenging projects across the minerals, waste, and environmental sectors. You will work alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
The Role
As a Senior / Principal Planning Consultant, you will take a leadership role in project delivery while providing expert planning advice to both clients and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical support to senior leadership within the planning team
2. Lead and contribute to a wide range of planning and environmental projects
3. Manage all stages of project delivery, including coordination of internal and external specialists
4. Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality and timely delivery
5. Deliver clear, practical advice on UK planning policy and environmental legislation
6. Manage and coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Statements
7. Lead the preparation and submission of planning applications, including Development Consent Orders (DCOs)
8. Liaise effectively with clients, regulators, and key stakeholders
9. Support business development activities and maintain strong client relationships
About You
10. Proven experience in minerals and waste planning
11. Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy
12. Experience in renewable energy projects (desirable)
13. Excellent report writing and communication skills
14. Strong project management skills, including budgets and team coordination
15. Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused approach
16. Comfortable working across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
17. Degree (BSc or equivalent) in Planning or a related discipline
18. Membership of a professional body such as RTPI, CIWM, or ISEP
19. Full UK driving licence
