We currently have a great opportunity within our Transport team for a Transport Driver.

The role is part time,

1. 25 hours working 10.30am to 3.30pm Monday - Thursday, 6am - 10am Friday. Working on Car Park shuttlebus.

Main duties of the job

To support the delivery of patient care by the transportation of goods, linen, pharmacy supplies, medical specimens, and Trust staff around the Trust and deliver/pick up from other contracted service users. To maintain vehicles in a clean & tidy state and promote good customer service to users. To complete legal & service required checks.

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

To support the delivery of patient care by the transportation of goods, linen, pharmacy supplies, medical specimens, and Trust staff around the Trust and deliver/pick up from other contracted service users. To maintain vehicles in a clean & tidy state and promote good customer service to users. To complete legal & service required checks.

Planning and Organisational Duties

2. Understand transport rules & regulations in relation the vehicle being driven.
3. Work to standard operational procedures, and allocated duties. Supervisor available.
4. Ensure daily vehicle checks are carried out.
5. Will be required to move, handle and distribute a variety of goods, which may be light, heavy or fragile, includes transportation of staff.
6. Will be expected to drive classes of vehicles ranging from small vans, mini-buses and vehicles up to 7.5tonnes tail lift.
7. Ensure compliance with route information and collection/delivery points.
8. Will be responsible for the regular cleaning (inside & out) of vehicles, vehicle inspection checks, and for reporting faults to the Transport Supervisor.
9. Will respect the confidentiality of all goods carried. Understand the implications of information Governance.
10. Co-ordinate and maintain all records as directed
11. Promote within and behalf of Transport Services, excellent public relations with patients, visitors and staff as well as members of the public.
12. Could be required to process and sort mail.
13. Must fully comply with all Trust Departmental policies and procedures at all times, and attend all training sessions as and when required.

Communications and Key Working Relationships

14. Communication with clients about changes or disruption to planned deliveries.
15. Communicates with public or clients when delivering, may have to park in areas for delivery/collection which cause disruption.
16. Maintain calm behaviour when faced with unhappy staff if staff services are unavoidably delayed.

Responsibility for Finance

17. Ensure the security of the vehicle at all times.
18. Record fuel input activity, and ensure fuel saving driving techniques are used.
19. Responsible for vehicle and contents when driving and on the route.

Responsibility for Human Resources

20. Demonstrate own duties to new starters
21. Attend courses as directed, ensure compliance with mandatory training
22. Compliance with Trust and Local procedures
23. Complete timesheet or work record

Responsibility for Health & Safety

24. Responsible for ensuring own safety at work.
25. Must adhere to the Highway Code and Trust road signs at all times on Trust business.
26. Manage spillages if they occur.
27. Report any defects to Supervisors
28. Significant manual handling required, moving linen bags, heavy boxes and fragile items.
29. Could be moving goods in unpleasant weather conditions.

Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

35. Basic numeracy & literacy qualifications
36. Valid driving licence for relevant classes of vehicle, eg D1 minibus licence, heavy good vehicle etc.

Desirable criteria

37. Clean Driving Licence
38. Fuel saving training

Experience

Essential criteria

39. Experience of working within similar environment
40. Considerable experience employed as a driver

Desirable criteria

41. Understanding of basic vehicle checks
42. Knowledge of vehicle activity records

Skills

Essential criteria

43. Skills relating to manual handling use of sack trucks etc.
44. Relevant skills for driving different class of vehicles
45. Skills relating to minor maintenance of vehicles

Desirable criteria

46. Advanced driving skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria

47. Knowledge and operational experience of a variety of vehicles.
48. Proven knowledge of the local area

Desirable criteria

49. Knowledge of Trust sites and associated departments

Essential criteria

50. Flexibility to provide cover for colleagues
51. Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
