Job Title: Corporate Health and Safety Manager

Pay rate: £27.71 - £28.82 per hour PAYE
Role length: Anticipated 1 - 2 month
The role
We are looking for a Corporate Health and Safety Manager to lead and manage all aspects of Corporate Health and Safety and to provide high quality, comprehensive and professional Health and Safety advice to support the Council achieve a safe working environment aligned to its strategic objectives.
Requirement: You must have a degree-level education or equivalent experience in NEBOSH/Health and Safety, with up to 5 years’ experience delivering health and safety within an organisation.
Key responsibilities
* Strategic Oversight: Advise senior management, staff, and contractors; oversee occupational health & safety systems and ensure statutory compliance across all Council sites
* Fire & Emergency Management: Manage fire/emergency procedures, risk mitigation, and drills
* Audits & Risk Control: Lead audits, develop safety policies, and manage workplace risks
* Investigations: Handle incidents, official notifications, and accident reports; implement corrective actions
* Reporting & Advice: Prepare briefings for Members, Trade Unions, and management; support Procurement with health & safety guidance
* Training & Promotion: Deliver training, debriefs, and wellbeing initiatives
* Incident Response: Respond to health & safety incidents, outbreaks, and enforcement visits
What the client is looking for
* Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience in NEBOSH /Health & Safety
* Significant experience of working within (up to 5 years) an internal organisation delivering health and safety
* Significant experience of applying regulatory controls
* Demonstrable experience of understanding and influencing senior stakeholders including councillors
* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding on how to interpret legislation
* Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
* Proficient IT skills especially Microsoft office products and web applications Back database systems
* Proven proportionate, and pragmatic problem-solving skills and ability.
* The ability to produce written documents and presentations to a high standard to a range of audiences
* Excellent customer service skills
