Salary
RT 4a+: £31,637 to £46,735 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £35,116 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance. RT 5: £45,413 to £57,422 per annum (pro-rata).
Position Overview
We are recruiting an Associate/Fellow or Senior Fellow to join Professor Philippa Tomczak’s prestigious £1.3m, five-year European Research Council Starting Grant RECEDE: ‘REgulating Criminal justice DEtention: glocal prospects for improving health and safety in detention and society’.
Candidate Requirements
Successful applicants will demonstrate strong ability or potential in one or more of the following core areas:
1. Ability to analyse policy documents; and/or
2. Ability to analyse the regulation of police detention in England and Wales; and/or
3. Ability to lead or contribute to analysis considering race, sex, gender, and/or death; and/or
4. Experience writing articles for peer-reviewed journals in social sciences and beyond; and/or
5. Strong methodological expertise; and/or
6. Ability to translate academic findings into practical implications, e.g., policy briefs; and/or
7. Qualitative research experience in criminal justice, psychiatric, or immigration detention; and/or
8. Ability to apply relevant theoretical and critical perspectives (e.g., actor-network theory, assemblages, processual ontologies, regulation and governance).
Additional Information
This project benefits from proximity to Prof Tomczak's international prison HEALTH research group, within the School of Sociology and Social Policy.
