Job Summary
Full‑time (10 PA) locum post. The post will be based across sites with clinics at both Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe Hospitals. Job share would be considered, 5 PAs per candidate.
The Paediatric department has been successful in getting approval to expand its consultant presence by new consultants to meet future workload and deliver safe, high‑quality care to all children in Buckinghamshire, with a particular focus on our trust care values.
We are seeking a keen, dynamic general paediatrician with a special interest that will compliment the current team. The post holder will carry out both general paediatric and neonatal duties and will participate in the overnight on‑call consultant rota. There will also be weekend evening ‘twilight’ shifts in the Paediatric ED to support the middle grades and help protect capacity.

Job Description
Successful candidates will join a team of consultants to undertake inpatient and outpatient work in neonates and general paediatrics, including inpatient ward attending weeks, observation ward attending and on‑call activities on a pro‑rata basis.
Outpatient
* Two general paediatric clinics each week across Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe Hospitals, ensuring local access for patients.
* Deliver nine Rapid Access Clinics (RAC) per year on days when not on twilight on‑call.
On Call
* Role involves Paediatrician of the Week (POW) and Neonatologist of the Week (NOW), totalling seven activities per year.
* Attend weeks for the Children’s Observation Unit (COU) within the Children’s Emergency Department (CED) – 1.5 weeks per year, with no other clinical commitments.
* Resident duties: fixed weekday evening twilight shifts (16:00‑22:00) within the Children’s Emergency Department; weekend twilight shift covering Friday‑Sunday evenings for three weekends per year.

Qualifications / Registration
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (Licence to practice MB, ChB or equivalent)
* On GMC specialist register or within 6 months of receipt of CCT in Paediatrics at time of interview
Desirable
* Higher postgraduate degree
* Formal qualification in medical education
Experience / Training
* MB, ChB or equivalent
* Registration on RCPCH CPD programme
* Level 3 child protection training
* Current APLS and NLS provider status (2 for each)
* Clinical experience of assessing and examining children and young people, including safeguarding
* Extensive knowledge of neonatal and general paediatrics
Desirable
* APLS/NLS instructor (1 for each)
