Our client has a requirement for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Manchester.
You will deliver innovative and safe geotechnical design solutions across high-impact water and rail infrastructure projects.
Hybrid - 3 days a week in office, 2 days at home
Contract position is Outside IR35
Role Purpose:
* Deliver high-quality geotechnical and civil engineering design solutions within the water and rail sectors.
* Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industry regulations across all design outputs.
* Support the successful execution of projects through expert technical input and leadership.
Job Role Responsibilities:
* Produce detailed geotechnical and civil engineering design calculations and drawings.
* Prepare site investigation briefs, technical reports, and project specifications.
* Ensure design deliverables meet required safety, quality, and professional standards.
* Lead and mentor junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians.
* Conduct and contribute to formal design reviews, including meetings and technical presentations.
* Accurately estimate time and resources for design activities and deliverables.
* Implement and document changes to design packages in a structured manner.
* Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams to meet project milestones.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
* Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical and/or civil engineering design.
* Strong background in geotechnics, including preparation of ground investigation specifications and interpretive reports.
* Degree or HND in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
* Proficient in relevant engineering design software and IT tools.
* Registered with a professional engineering body and actively pursuing chartership.
* Effective communication and presentation skills with a focus on results, quality, and safety.
* Committed to mentoring, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
Preferred:
* Chartered Engineer status (advantageous but not essential).
* Experience in the water and/or rail sectors.
* Familiarity with construction methodologies, GI techniques, and regulated infrastructure environments (e.g., utilities, nuclear, highways).
* Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and multi-disciplinary design practices.
