About the role
This is a maternity cover opportunity within the Compliance & Assurance team, expected to last for 12 months from April - April. Please note that this role is open for applications from internal staff members only.
Reporting to the International Risk and Partnerships Manager, the Compliance & Assurance Officer will support the operational delivery of key governance and assurance processes across UCL’s research portfolio.
The role plays an important part in ensuring that UCL meets its obligations under funder requirements and regulatory frameworks, including Trusted Research guidance, Export Controls, the National Security and Investment Act, and the Nagoya Protocol. The postholder will undertake third-party due diligence on funders and partners, support export control and national security case management processes, and maintain accurate records across priority compliance areas.
You will provide operational and systems support, including maintaining research management records such as Worktribe funder and partner profiles, supporting data integrity, and producing reports for senior stakeholders within RIS and the Office of the Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation and Global Engagement).
The role requires sound judgement, discretion and the ability to assess and mitigate risk in situations where information may be incomplete or complex. Working collaboratively across Professional Services and Faculties, you will contribute to embedding consistent and proportionate compliance practices across the research lifecycle.
About you
You will bring experience of supporting research compliance or assurance activity within a higher education environment, with a strong understanding of research administration processes, policies and governance requirements.
Comfortable working in a complex organisation, you will have experience of maintaining systems and records, responding to operational queries and supporting research management processes. An understanding of research management systems and funder compliance requirements would be advantageous.
You are analytical and solutions-focused, able to interpret complex issues and present clear, balanced recommendations. You are confident handling sensitive and confidential information, and you demonstrate excellent judgement and professionalism in your approach.
With strong written and verbal communication skills, you are able to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, providing a responsive and helpful service while maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity.
