Job summary
You'll be required to undertake the acquisition of Capital Equipment and the preparation of business cases for rolling equipment replacement programmes. Particular emphasis will be on the control of the Capital Asset Register and upkeep of equipment within the theatre area. You'll have responsibility for hiring, repair and control of medical equipment used within the department(s).
You will be the first line contact for all theatre healthcare professionals with queries regarding medical equipment, including all equipment company representatives entering the theatre suite.
To coordinate hiring, repair and control of equipment and materials passing through the department. Utilising GS1 codes to allow all equipment to be traced through a full asset management when the system is implemented.
Main duties
* Process orders and organise quotations for all capital equipment in the theatre capital program.
* Liaise with Medical Engineering to ensure the Theatre Capital Asset Register is populated.
* Work with Medical Engineering when disposing of equipment to ensure de-population of asset register.
* Work with the Directorate management team with high value contracts for capital equipment.
* Follow up on trials of equipment to ensure evaluation documentation is completed. Feedback will involve discussions with all clinical grades of staff. This information is fed back to the management team.
* First line contact for organising and delivering in-service training on new and existing equipment for all disciplines of staff. The post holder will be required to work within the clinical setting to give advice to all grades of clinical staff regarding medical equipment and consumables.
* To prioritise and act upon medical alerts ensuring effective communication to relevant members of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will advise on the steps to be taken in order to prevent any serious incidents from reoccurring
* To participate in clinical roles, 24 hours on call rota including weekends.

Person specification
Experience / Evidence Based
* Have an understanding of the requirements of post in operating department.
* City & Guilds BTech or NVQ Level 2
* Appropriate experience / in-service training
Desirable
* Has worked in a similar role within a healthcare environment
Knowledge
* Aptitude for using technical equipment and dexterity of handling micro instruments.
Skills
* Good written and oral communication skills, telephone skills
* Insight into team leadership
