An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Mechanical Engineer (NI) on a permanent contract to join the Maintenance & Engineering team in Northern Ireland and will be based at both EP Kilroot and EP Ballylumford Power Stations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete asset care of the plant. The role supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant ensuring optimal plant performance, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership Overseeing and executing mechanical engineering activities associated with the plant. 101MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant (1 x V64.3a Gas turbine, HRSG and Steam turbine) and associated balance of plant. 494MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plant (2 x V94.2 Gas turbine, 2 HRSG and 180 MW Steam turbine) and associated balance of plant. 2 x 58MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine units (8 x Avon Gas Turbine) and associated balance of plant. 2 x 29MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine units (4 x Avon Gas Turbine) and associated balance of plant. 2 x 42MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine units (2 x GE Frame 6B) and associated balance of plant. 2 x 350MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine Units (2 Siemens SGT-4000F) and associated balance of plant. Common systems and Auxiliaries. Responsible for developing and maintaining an asset management plan, ensuring the integrity, safety and reliable operation of all plant and non-plant related mechanical systems i.e. gas turbines and steam turbines (GT/ST), pumps, compressors, fans, pressure systems, fuel systems, valves, pipework and stacks. Adhering with all policies, procedures, standards and guidelines which can affect the integrity of the asset. Function Leadership Providing on-the-job training and facilitating technical knowledge transfer, ensuring development of the maintenance team. Liaising closely with the other functions and other departments, ensuring the effective co-ordination of activities and optimisation of resources. Planning, co-ordination and controlling of major outages, overhauls, routine and non-routine work is executed in the most effective manner. Conducting training on mechanical plant and equipment. Supporting financial control of a budget within the area of responsibility. Supporting cross functional and site working to ensure business priorities are delivered. Operations & Maintenance Support Managing, planning and directing long term condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and online diagnostics of critical mechanical assets, co-ordinating the support required from the maintenance teams. Supporting the maintenance teams, troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical faults. Review and manage mechanical spares, obsolescence strategies and procurement. Project & Asset Management Leading mechanical scope in plant upgrades (e.g., GT upgrades, valve replacement). Managing contractor performance during outages and capital projects. Managing mechanical scope during major outages and overhauls. Leading, planning and executing of major and minor outages across different OEM platforms. Support the management of long-term service agreements (LTSA/CSA), negotiating scopes and evaluating technical proposals and upgrade kits. Attending Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and technical clarification meetings with OEMs. Working with OEMs and contractors, ensuring high-quality inspections and refurbishments. Managing spare parts, critical stock inventory and long-lead items. Responsibility for budget preparation and financial control within the area of responsibility. Compliance & Safety Ensuring adherence to safety standards and procedures related to mechanical plant. Maintaining records in compliance with ISO, regulatory, and OEM requirements. Positively contributing to the safety culture of the sites in carrying out monthly safety inspections, monthly safety team briefings and the use of the BMS system. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Background Significant mechanical engineering experience, including considerable knowledge of Open Cycle and Combined Cycle Power Plant (essential), Experience of maintaining rotating plant to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards (essential). Detailed knowledge of relevant maintenance philosophies, existing and proposed technical legislation, policies and legal obligations (essential). Knowledge of planning techniques and project management (essential). In-depth knowledge of combined and open cycle plant and auxiliary equipment (desirable). Commercial awareness and a good understanding of the electricity generation market (desirable). Behaviours Strong analytical and diagnostic skills in control systems. Excellent documentation, troubleshooting, and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to make improvements through innovation, performance and change management, and development of self and others. Capable of making sound strategic and operational decisions through analysing data focusing on customers and commercial awareness. Excellent communication skills with internal and external statements (e.g. OEMs, utilities, regulators). Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and promote effective team working. Qualifications Relevant degree (mechanical discipline) or Third level qualification with significant power station experience (essential). Chartered Engineer (desirable).
