Temporary Join a Financial Services team based in Oxford as a Local Taxation Officer, playing a key role in ensuring the accurate billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates while providing excellent customer service. THE ROLE
As a Local Taxation Officer, you will manage and maintain local tax accounts, ensuring compliance with legislation and supporting customers with advice and assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
Determine liability for Council Tax and Business Rates in line with legislation.
Maintain and update records for billing and collection using council systems.
Process correspondence and verify information using multiple databases.
Apply discounts, exemptions, and reliefs to maximise take-up and support customers.
Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and enforcement partners.
Advise customers on financial matters, welfare benefits, and payment plans.
Support court proceedings and recovery actions to reduce arrears.THE CANDIDATE
We are looking for someone with proven experience in a financial, collections, or debt recovery environment who can manage complex caseloads effectively.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Experience administering Council Tax, Business Rates, and Housing Benefit overpayments.
Ability to interpret legislation and explain it clearly to non-specialists.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and exceed targets.
Proficient in using financial and revenues IT systems, including online portals.
Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused approach.Desirable: IRRV Technician qualification or experience using Civica OPEN Revenues. THE CONTRACT
Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Length of Contract: 3 Month Contract, potential for extension.
Rate: £22.33 per hour LTD / £19.16 per hour PAYE (inclusive of holiday).
Location: Hybrid – Work from home and Oxford Town Hall (attendance required for meetings and training).HOW TO APPLY
