About The Role
The Department of Geography at King’s College London invites applications for a Lecturer in Geopolitics to conduct research in geo/political and historical geography. The successful candidate will teach Geopolitics, covering both contemporary critical approaches and historical (neo)classical perspectives, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including lectures, field trips, supervision, tutorials, and assessments. They will also engage in individual and collaborative research, contributing to departmental research groups such as Contested Development.
Applicants should hold a PhD in geography or a related discipline and have a developing research profile in Geopolitics, including subfields like border studies. Preference is given to those with critical approaches to territorial themes, energy and resource issues, colonial and imperial geographies, and migration. Methodologically, experience with archives, ethnography, media, and policy discourse is desirable. Candidates with a track record of securing research funding or influencing policy are especially encouraged to apply. UK academic environment experience is advantageous.
This is a permanent position with a 3-year probation, starting in September 2025, reporting to the Head of Department. The role includes mentoring and support for career development in education, administration, and research.
About You
Essential Criteria:
* PhD in geography or a related discipline (viva completed before September)
* Ability to design and deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials in Geopolitics and Human Geography
* Experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with innovative methods and engaging diverse students
* Experience supervising student research projects with quality feedback
* Research contributions via peer-reviewed publications or other dissemination modes
* Ability to contribute to research funding efforts
* Interest in research impact and public engagement
* Collaborative and administrative skills suitable for a university environment
Desirable Criteria:
* Training in Higher Education teaching and learning
* Training in diversity and inclusion
* Experience in academic administration or leadership roles
* Experience advising and supporting students
* Familiarity with the UK education system
