Job overview

Are you an aspiring nurse leader, looking for a new development opportunity, with a passion for improving the experience of women, their families and of course our healthcare staff? If so, this opportunity could be for you.

We have an exciting development opportunity available to cover maternity leave for a nurse looking for their next clinical leadership position. Working in collaboration with the gynaecology ward manager, you will lead our gynaecology and early pregnancy assessment service at the Royal Preston Hospital. The unit is an emergency service operating in a model similar to that of a same day emergency care service for patients with urgent and emergency gynaecological condition or early pregnancy related concern. The unit has had its busiest year to date, with 10,000 attendances and over 1,000 recorded early pregnancy losses.

This post is a critical role to our senior nursing leadership team, required to champion the care needs of women, their partners and of course our workforce. You will champion high quality standards of care through continuous improvement to continue to drive innovation and change.

You will work closely with the gynae ward manager. The Ward accommodates a diverse mixture of surgical and emergency patients within the 18 bedded area, offering a specialist service for Gynaecology Oncology, Urogynaecology and Endometriosis patients alongside our early pregnancy patients, caring for those experiencing early pregnancy loss and miscarriage.

Main duties of the job

You will have excellent communication & organisational skills, be passionate & strive to make a difference. You will be responsible for overseeing the provision of high quality care that is safe, efficient, effective, kind and meets the individual needs of women and their partners using our services. Together with the wider Gynaecology team you will be leading the service to uphold the Trust Values. You will have overall responsibility for the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relative and visitors who are cared for within their ward or department or by their team.

Working closely with the Matron and lead consultant for the service, you will maintain a focus on the promotion of a close working relationship with the MDT team to uphold our standards and our mission to deliver excellent care with compassion, every time. You will deputise on behalf of the matron where appropriate to ensure consistent and safe care is delivered at all times to our patients whilst leading our amazing nursing and wider MDT teams. You will have strong leadership skills in order to lead a diverse team.

A visit to the department is highly recommended to understand this fast paced & dynamic environment that is so much more than just a routine ward.

Working for our organisation

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 2.1 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of
