SEND Teaching Assistant - Temporary for two years in the first instance

15 hours per week | 3 hours per day (9am-12) | Term time only

Alderman Richard Hallam Primary School is seeking a committed and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role will involve supporting a class with a range of SEND needs, including providing targeted support for individual pupils, while also contributing to the wider learning and progress of the class.

The Role - Working under the direction of the class teacher and SEND Co-ordinator, you will:

1. Provide high quality, personalised support to a pupil with additional needs, on a 1:1 basis
2. Support learning, emotional regulation and social development
3. Help the pupil access an adapted curriculum and participate in school life
4. Contribute to a positive, structured and nurturing environment

Pupil Information:

5. Complex, significant needs
6. Experience challenges with focus, attention and emotional regulation
7. Pre-verbal with limited communication skills
8. Will need constant supervision, support with routines and assistance with self-help skills
9. The successful candidate must be confident supporting children who may present with complex behavioural or communication needs and be prepared to undertake additional training where required

We are looking for someone who:

10. Has experience supporting pupils with SEND in a primary or early years setting
11. Has high expectations for all children and believes in inclusive practice
12. Can build positive, professional relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues
13. Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
14. Works effectively as part of a team and uses initiative when needed
15. Can foster positive relationships with children who may present challenging behaviour
16. Is willing to support pupils with self-help skills, including toileting if required
17. Is committed to professional development and ongoing training
