Role: Senior Locum Lawyer – Children & Social Services
Location: Bury (Hybrid Working Available)
Rate: £50‑£55 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: Initial 6 months (likely extension)
The Opportunity
CRA Consulting is delighted to be working in partnership with a well‑regarded Local Authority in Bury to recruit an experienced Senior Locum Lawyer – Children & Social Services.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a busy and supportive legal team, playing a key role in advising on complex and sensitive children’s matters. You will be working closely with social care teams and senior stakeholders, helping to deliver essential services that have a direct impact on vulnerable children and families within the community.

What You'll Be Doing
* Managing complex childcare matters, including care proceedings and safeguarding issues
* Advising on public law children cases and associated legislation
* Providing strategic legal advice to social workers, senior officers, and committees
* Conducting advocacy in court (where required)
* Drafting legal documentation, applications, and reports
* Supporting decision‑making processes within Children’s Services
* Working closely with internal departments to ensure legal compliance and best outcomes
* Potentially mentoring junior members of the team
What They’re Looking For
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEX (with advocacy rights)
* Strong recent experience in Children & Social Services law within a Local Authority
* Proven ability to handle complex and sensitive caseloads independently
* Advocacy experience and confidence in court proceedings
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment
* A proactive, solution‑focused approach
