The Project This internship is designed to give a student a rich, real-world learning experience across multiple areas of business operations and digital transformation. You'll be part of a dedicated project team, including external consultants, working on a high-impact initiative to improve operational efficiency and prepare the business for future growth. During the internship, you will gain hands-on experience in process mapping and analysis by conducting stakeholder interviews and creating detailed workflows using Microsoft Visio. With the support of the project manager you will apply Lean thinking and continuous improvement methodologies to identify inefficiencies and contribute to streamlining operations. As part of the digital transformation focus, the intern will research and evaluate ERP systems, resulting in the development of a functional requirements specification tailored to the business. You will also support ISO readiness by documenting standard operating procedures to align with compliance frameworks. Finally, the intern will engage in strategic scenario planning, designing future-state processes that incorporate new equipment implementation and forecasting performance impacts linked to key operational and financial KPIs. Expected Outcomes: A comprehensive set of process maps and SOPs. An ERP Functional Requirements Specification report. A final presentation of findings and recommendations to senior leadership. Person Specification We welcome applications from students and graduates studying: Project Management, Business, History, Science, Engineering, Mathematics. Other disciplines will also be considered, particularly those with strong elements of research, planning, and analytics. Key Skills & Competencies: Process Mapping Awareness: Familiarity with documenting workflows and using tools like Microsoft Visio. Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess current workflows, identify inefficiencies, and propose data-driven improvements. Stakeholder Engagement: Confident in conducting interviews and workshops with cross-functional teams. Project Coordination: Able to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines independently. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to clearly document and present findings. IT Proficiency: Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint). Interest in Manufacturing: A plus for those curious about production environments and operational systems. Bonus Knowledge: Understanding of Lean, Six Sigma, or Business Process Management (BPM) methodologies would be an advantage. The internship is due to start on 29th September 2025 and run for 6 weeks.
