Experienced Health Care Assistant - GP Setting Therole of the Health Care Assistant is extremely varied and requires quickthinking, the ability to put patients quickly at ease, working within setappointment times and working to set protocols. It is important that the postholder is able to remain calm under pressure, is efficient, organised and canbe considered by patients and colleagues as friendly, caring and approachable.

Main duties of the job Depending upon the existing skills and experience of the most suitable candidate, the role will include aspects of the following:
Urinalysis, Phlebotomy and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory
Giving flu and B12 injections
Undertaking health checks for patients with long term conditions and to gather data: e.g. NHS Health Checks, QoF data capturing.
Measuring and recording following physiological measurements in routine presentations: - blood pressure - pulse rate and rhythm - height and weight - body mass index - venepuncture - nebulisation therapy - ECG - peak flow reading - spirometry (training will be given) - chaperoning - basic wound care - blood sugar readings - assisting Minor Surgery/IUCDs

Purpose: To assist the GPs and practice nurse team in the service and delivery of the care management of the practice population
Responsible to: Practice Manager, GP Partners
Job summary
The post holder works under indirect supervision of the GPS and undertakes tasks and duties delegated by the suitably qualified regulated professionals.
They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures.

Person Specification Qualifications Basic literacy and numeracy skills

Willingness to undertake an NVQ or equivalent HCA qualification in primary care

Willing to develop clinical skills and competency relevant to the role e.g. phlebotomy skills equipment e.g. ECG machine
Ability to assist others with the delivery of care e.g. assisting with IUCD/S and implant fitting/removal
Fitness to do the job within manual-handing policy
