Job summary
An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of Training Programme Director for Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology for the London and South East programme. The Training Programme Director works with and supports the Associate Dean in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England (NHS E) mandate. The role is professionally and managerially accountable to the Associate Dean and focuses on improving learner supervision, assessment and experience, engaging faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes now and in the future. The role will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links, across health and social care contexts where relevant, to reflect changing service models and deliver an integrated workforce from diverse backgrounds.
Main duties of the job
The Programme Director will ensure that both national standards, determined by the Royal College, and guidelines and standards established within the Dental Specialty are met. Responsibilities will include:
* Provide effective clinical leadership, contributing to the strategic development of NHS England.
* Address specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
* Recruitment to training posts and programmes.
* Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, OOP management, trainee management careers support, less than full-time training, inter-deanery transfer, academic training and other related work-streams.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of Dental Specialty training within the chosen field across the region, who will also have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

Qualifications and Training

* Registered with the General Dental Council with specialty registration
* Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body
Desirable
* Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (e.g., educator courses, Train the trainer, etc)
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
* Considerable experience of working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context
* Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team
* Knowledge and understanding of the relevant specialty curricula
Desirable
* Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education
Skills and Abilities

* Demonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others
