The post holder will work with our Early Communication Support Team to offer early advice and support for children aged 0-5 and their families and wider professionals through the Family Hubs, under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist as a member of the Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team. They will:
1. Work alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) and external colleagues to run therapy groups, carry out advice reviews, model, and implement therapy advice and programs.
2. Independently provide training and support to Early Years settings, parents/carers, and colleagues under supervision and guidance from a therapist.
3. Meet families at community stay and play groups to offer support and advice on speech, language, and communication development.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of child development and apply this knowledge within their role.
5. Understand the theoretical knowledge of language and communication.
6. Provide clinical administrative support, including preparing resource materials.

The role involves:
1. Carrying out observation and information gathering to contribute to SLT assessments.
2. Promoting communication development messages to parents/carers in various venues.
3. Implementing or modeling therapeutic interventions set by the SLT.
4. Providing training and support for early years settings and parents/carers.
5. Designing and organizing therapy activities and resources.
6. Planning therapy session activities.
7. Working independently within sessions.
8. Recognizing opportunities to extend advice and when to refer back to SLT.
9. Managing challenging situations and seeking support when needed.
10. Building productive relationships with service users.
11. Contributing to caseload management and documentation.
12. Handling queries from parents/carers and professionals.
13. Supporting administrative tasks in the Speech and Language Therapy service.
Communication
The post holder will:
1. Provide feedback to patients, parents, and professionals.
2. Liaise with other professionals and support staff to explain therapy approaches.
3. Communicate respectfully and effectively, especially in understanding difficulties.
4. Maintain positive relationships characterized by trust and openness.
Key Relationships include internal staff such as SLTs, support practitioners, and administrators, and external contacts like children, parents, education services, and health professionals.
Additional responsibilities include monitoring stock levels, participating in professional development, adhering to governance policies, and working flexibly to meet patient needs.
Applicants must have experience working with children or young people, be motivated, dynamic, and possess excellent communication skills.
