Principal Mechanical Engineer – Radar Systems | BAE Systems | UK | SC Required (Not needed to start) BAE Systems have a requirement for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the development of next-generation radar technologies. This is a senior, hands-on leadership position within a highly secure engineering environment, ideal for someone with deep expertise across mechanical design, analysis, and integration of complex systems. The Role: Lead mechanical engineering activity across advanced radar development programmes Provide technical leadership to a team of mechanical & CAD engineers Own design, build, integration, and test of complex mechanical systems Act as a Subject Matter Expert (e.g. FEA, CFD, Structures, Thermal) Support engineering lifecycle from requirements through to in-service support Key Experience Required: Strong background in mechanical design & system integration Experience with composite materials and structural behaviour Proven use of FEA / CFD / modelling & simulation tools Knowledge of shock, vibration, and dynamic loading environments Familiarity with engineering standards & full lifecycle delivery Additional: Experience leading teams / work packages within engineering projects Strong stakeholder management and technical leadership capability CEng (or equivalent experience) desirable Experience with SAP PDM or similar tools beneficial Environment: Working within a secure defence / radar engineering programme High level of technical ownership and influence Opportunity to shape future radar products Security Requirements: Must be eligible for SC clearance (UK residency required) If you’re a senior mechanical engineer looking to step into a high-impact leadership role within advanced defence technology, feel free to reach out or apply.
