Description Kent is looking for a Consultant Materials & Corrosion Engineer to lead the activities in developing the material design within project budget and determining timing for resource requirements. The successful candidate will serve as the liaison for inter-discipline engineering involved in the project and is accountable for overall discipline related activities for the successful completion of project, on schedule and within manpower and budget estimates. We are seeking high caliber people for this key Engineering role that have talent, enthusiasm and drive to influence and be part of our exciting expansion plan. The UK Engineering group will support a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in Low Carbon/ Energy Transition (CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, Emissions Reduction) as well as responsibly developing traditional international energy projects. We follow a hybrid working model that combines office and remote work, with a requirement to be in the Woking office four days a week. This approach supports the development of a strong and effective team dynamic within Engineering. Skills & Responsibilities: To be able to provide expert capabilities in one or more fields of metallurgy As required to be able to supervise a team of engineers to address all discipline specific requirements within the project. Capable of performing duties with no direct supervision and within agreed schedules and budgets. May undertake discrete specialist studies / technology reviews under supervision. Liaises with other disciplines to achieve design consistency for project and departmental. Supports the Project Management Team in planning, and identifying technical issues which could limit progress, impact project budgets. Interfacing with the client Provides necessary input and support to project progress and reporting. Supports the discipline group manager with the development of discipline engineers and ensuring technical excellence. Consultant engineer may work on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC project. Technically responsible for all metallurgy input to a project and allocating supervising and directing deliverables. Subject to project size, will delegate some level of supervision and specific checking activities to appropriate competent personnel. Supervises, reviews and checks the materials activities including: Philosophies, Specifications for coatings, protection, insulation etc, Cathodic Protection, Material Selection, Calculations, Drawings, Datasheets, preparation of Technical Requisitions & Bid Evaluations. Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from original proposal/ contract by raising technical queries with projects / client. Identifying and resolving discrepancies and divergences from original proposal/ contract by raising technical queries and/or identifying trends and changes within the framework of management of change. Participates in factory acceptance tests, also supporting Engineers as required for Vendor issues. Participates in multi-discipline engineering design reviews and provides all necessary metallurgy and materials input and support to the close-out of actions. Reviews ITB documents submitted as the proposal. Identifies a clear scope of work, prepares and reviews the man‑hour estimates, inputs to the project execution plan and schedule. Responsible for the planning/scheduling the metallurgy activities and identify manpower requirements through the project. Liaises with the Group Manager for allocation of resources. Ensures compatibility and compliance with client specifications and recommends cost effective improvements within the scope of client specifications and requirements. Ensures compliance with Kent’s ISO accredited QMS, and project specific procedures, guides and standards. Contributes to employee performance development, identifies employee strengths and weaknesses and recommends and provides training and development requirements in consultation with the Group Manager. Contribute to execution of Engineering projects (Oil and Gas, Hydrogen and Low Carbon), with responsibilities including Supports to projects for the selection of materials, corrosion assessment and development of deliverables. Design and review of coating and painting systems onshore pipelines, onshore oil and gas buried metallic structures. Knowledge of cathodic protection will be added advantage. Reviews, and checks the materials activities including Philosophies, Specifications for coatings, protection, insulation etc, Material Selection, Calculations, Drawings, Datasheets, preparation of Technical Requisitions & Bid Evaluations. Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from original proposal/ contract by raising technical queries with projects / client. Experience of CRAS and RBI will be added advantage. Writing of Materials Selection Philosophies, Reports and preparing Materials Selection Diagrams. Writing of Materials Specification (Coating and Painting, Insulations and Sour materials). Work experience of the corrosion models (ECE 5.8, Predict etc). Contributing towards bids and proposals. Typically holds a Master’s degree in Metallurgy or post-graduate Metallurgy qualification. Chartered status is preferred. Significant related experience of working for engineering/client organisations in the oil and gas industry. Exposure to consultancy, FEED/ detailed design and EPC projects. In depth knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications Knowledge of safety and quality procedures and best practice. Activity scheduling and discipline priorities. Knowledge of CO2, H2S corrosion, CO2 Dense Phase, H2, MIC and Chlorides degradation mechanisms is required. Ammonia and Biofuel corrosion is considered advantageous. Knowledge of Coating and Painting requirements and specification. In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization.
