Role Overview
Registered Mental Health Nurse with a strong interest in working with individuals with complex mental health needs in a community setting. The role involves managing a caseload under the direct supervision of a Band 6 charge nurse and working within a multi‑disciplinary team on the Arran Community Mental Health Team. Responsibilities include assessment of patient care needs, development and evaluation of programmes of care, and delivery of nursing care independently.
Location & Working Pattern
* Postholder will join the Arran Community Mental Health Team.
* Shift pattern: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00.
Key Responsibilities
* Function as named nurse/keyworker, managing a defined patient caseload.
* Assess care needs and plan, implement, and evaluate programmes of care.
* Carry out relevant nursing care for individual patients, delegating to health care assistants where appropriate.
* Identify and respond to health promotion needs, gender‑health issues, domestic abuse concerns, and child protection matters.
* Maintain accurate records of nursing care.
* Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and carers, ensuring participative care within an equality, dignity, and respect framework that acknowledges spiritual and cultural diversity.
* Ensure personal practice and that of delegates complies with the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and all relevant national and local policies, standards, guidelines and good practice statements.
* Support the Band 6 Nurse Team Leader in establishing clinical governance, including communication, leadership, audit, evidence‑based practice, and safety measures.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered Mental Nurse with a live NMC registration.
* At least 12 months experience at Band 5 in a relevant clinical area.
* Evidence of post‑basic professional development.
* Evidence of effective leadership skills commensurate with a Band 5 role.
* Excellent team‑working skills.
* Ability to work independently using own initiative.
* Effective communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
* Full driving licence.
