As our In-House Lawyer, you will be the go-to legal expert at eSolicitors.com. You’ll oversee legal compliance, manage contracts, advise on risk, and work closely with leadership to ensure our platform is secure, ethical, and aligned with all relevant laws and regulations. This is an exciting opportunity to shape legal strategy at the heart of a fast-growing legal tech company.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide legal advice across all areas of the business, including commercial, data protection, regulatory compliance, employment, and intellectual property.
* Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and terms of service (e.g., client agreements, freelancer agreements, partnership contracts).
* Ensure platform operations comply with UK legal standards and SRA regulations where applicable.
* Help manage internal policies relating to client privacy, confidentiality, and platform use.
* Oversee GDPR compliance and data protection practices across the company.
* Collaborate with product and tech teams to assess legal implications of platform features and updates.
* Support investor relations, corporate governance, and company secretarial matters.
* Liaise with external counsel when necessary for specialist matters.
* Stay ahead of regulatory developments in the legal tech and marketplace sectors.
Requirements:
* UK-qualified solicitor with at least 3+ years of post-qualification experience.
* Strong knowledge of commercial law, contract law, and data protection (GDPR).
* Experience working in or advising tech, SaaS, or marketplace businesses is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and drafting skills.
* Self-starter with a commercial mindset and the ability to work independently.
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
Bonus Skills:
* Familiarity with legal marketplace models or freelance platforms.
* Experience with intellectual property, employment law, or online dispute resolution.
* Previous experience in a legal tech startup or innovation-focused legal environment.
