Durham University International Study Centre (DUISC) launched in September 2017. You will be working in a culture of enhancing learning, teaching and assessment through a developmental approach, which for you will mean autonomy, innovation, and development opportunities.
The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective Social Science modules at Graduate Diploma (Pre Masters) level, in the Centre.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role will teach on a variety of modules: Contemporary Issues in Politics and International Relations, Extended Research and Globalisation. A knowledge of ethnography would also be beneficial.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Delivering modules to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the development of modules.
* Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
* Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
* Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
* Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process
* Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance.
* Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students.
* Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
* Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
* Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
* Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to subject.
ABOUT YOU
* A recognised teaching qualification (Desirable)
* A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (essential for Graduate Diploma Level teaching)
* Fluent spoken and written English
* Teaching experience delivering Social Science programmes within a UK FE/Sixth form or higher education context.
* experience of working with international students (Desirable)
* A student-centred approach with a focus on engagement and inclusion.
* Confident in both online and face-to-face teaching.
* Proficient in educational technologies and digitally literate.
* Able to use administrative tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
* Flexible, organised, and able to work effectively under pressure.
